
Heat Exchangers — Three Letters, and the Space in Front of Them
A 900 mm shell, 6 m tube, AES exchanger is set on its saddles between a pipe rack and a pump house. The pipework is made up, the insulation is on, the unit runs for four years.
At the first big turnaround the shell side is fouled. The maintenance planner books a bundle pull — it is an S rear head, the bundle is designed to come out — and the rigging crew walk the job. Then somebody measures from the channel flange to the pump-house wall.
