PSA 9.3 — Seismic Response Spectrum Analysis: When 0.15 g Becomes 0.5 g

Lesson 3.4 ran a static seismic case on a 12″ water-filled rack line. The project criteria handed over a flat 0.15 g horizontal coefficient — the ASCE 7 lower bound, which is what almost always governs for welded steel pipe — and the occasional stress check came back at 14 % of allowable.

Now the criteria are revised. The line runs 12 m between lateral guides, the site spectrum is S_DS = 0.5 g / S_D1 = 0.25 g, and a response spectrum analysis is required.
