PSA 9.1 — Dynamics Fundamentals: Natural Frequency, Mode Shapes, Damping and DLF
A 12″ STD compressor discharge line crosses a road on the second tier of a rack. To clear the crossing the layout team opened one span to 9 m while everything either side stays at 6 m. You check it the way Module 4 taught you. The line is gas-filled and lagged, so it is light — about 82 kg/m — and both checks come back comfortable:
sag δ = 5wL⁴/384EI = 5 × 0.804 × 9 000⁴ / (384 × 203 000 × 1.164e8) = 2.9 mm (limit 12.5 mm) stress M = wL²/8 = 0.804 × 9 000²/8…
