PSA 7.4 — Rigid Struts & Sway Braces: The Restraints That Are Not Quite Rigid

A hot 12″ line on a rack needs lateral restraint at one point, and the point is thermally active: the pipe slides 100 mm axially through it between cold and hot. A rigid guide would bind, so a strut is specified — a pinned-pinned rod, perpendicular to the pipe, from the pipe clamp to a bracket on the column. The model shows it as a rigid lateral restraint carrying 30 kN.
