
PSA 4.1 — Support Span: Deflection, Stress, and What the Table Hides
A 6″ condensate line runs 40 m along a rack with bents every 6 m. The layout engineer has put a shoe on every second bent — 12 m spans — and his defence is a span table pinned above his desk that says 6″ is good for "17 ft". Two years later the line has a visible belly between supports, it will not drain, and a pocket at the low point is water-hammering every time the trap cycles.
