PSA 2.6 — The Code Map: B31.1 vs B31.3 vs B31.4 vs B31.8

X52 (Sy = 359 MPa), 20″, hoop allowable:

B31.3: S = min(2/3×359, 460/3) ≈ 153 MPa B31.4: 0.72×359 ≈ 258 MPa (~70 % more pipe utilisation) B31.8 class 3: 0.50×359 ≈ 180 MPa Same steel: the pipeline trusts it 1.7× harder — hydrotest + ductility + remoteness buys that. Where a pipeline enters a plant, the scope break (typically first flange/valve inside the fence, contract-defined) flips the rulebook; anchor flanges (our Sheet 01!) often live exactly at that boundary to decouple the two regimes.
