Competency Shape Models — Growing from Piping Stress into EPC Leadership
Competency = Knowledge + Skill + Attitude/behaviour applied to a result (KSA). Three families: technical/functional , business/commercial , behavioural/leadership .
KSA in detail (rooted in Bloom's taxonomy of learning, 1956 — cognitive / psychomotor / affective): - Knowledge — knowing WHAT and WHY (cognitive). Facts, theory, codes, methods. Built by study (courses, codes, books); assessed by tests/certifications. Stress example: knowing B31.3 allowable-stress rules and why SIFs exist. - Skill — knowing HOW, being able to DO (psychomotor). Proficiency built by repetition. Built by practice (real projects, shadowing); assessed by observing work and results. Stress example: building a clean Caesar II…
